Hydrocarbons (continued)

Cyclanes are cyclic hydrocarbons that contain only a single bond. Therefore, it is a saturated hydrocarbon. Its general formula is ÇnoH2n

It can be represented by a geometric figure indicating the cycle. Cyclanes are obtained through petroleum. It is used as a solvent and remover of paints and varnishes. From it is produced nylon.

Examples of major cycloalkanes:

cyclopropane
Ç3H6

cyclobutane
Ç4H8
cyclohexane
Ç6H12

methyl cyclopropane

Cycloalkenes

The cycloalkenes are cyclic hydrocarbons having a double bond. See some examples:

cyclopentene

1-methylcyclopropene
